Seamless gutter installation: what the job covers
Seamless gutter installation means the gutter is formed from a flat metal coil on site, cut to the length of each run, and hung as one piece with joints only at corners and end caps. The job covers measuring, forming, hanging, sealing, downspouts, hauling away old gutters and a cleanup of the yard.
You get these deliverables:
- Gutters formed to fit each run, not pieced from stock lengths
- Hangers screwed into solid fascia at close spacing
- Corners mitered and sealed, with end caps installed
- Downspouts placed per the plan agreed with you, with elbows and extensions
- Old gutters, fasteners and debris removed
- A hose test before we leave
The seamless approach means fewer joints, and each joint is where a gutter eventually leaks. For a longer comparison with sectional systems, read seamless versus sectional gutters.
Aluminum gutters in Alameda: why they are the usual choice
Aluminum does not rust, takes baked-on paint, and is light enough to hang from older fascia without extra bracing. Those points matter in a city on the bay with salt in the air. Steel gutters corrode faster here. Vinyl sections become brittle in sun and are not what we recommend for a roof edge that gets ladder traffic.
Aluminum has one weakness: contact with other metals. Steel fasteners or copper flashing touching bare aluminum set up galvanic corrosion. We match fasteners and flashing to the gutter metal so nothing eats the gutter from inside the joint. Industry sources commonly put aluminum gutter life at 20 years or more, and salt air, tree litter and neglect change that number.
Do deeper gutters make sense for your roof?
Deeper gutters make sense when the roof is large, steeply pitched, or has valleys and dormers that pour water into one point. A standard 5-inch gutter fits most homes. A 6-inch gutter holds more and pairs with a larger downspout, which clears faster.
An Alameda customer had deeper gutters fitted around the whole house. We choose size from roof area, pitch and where valleys land, not from the look of the old gutter. If the old gutter overflowed at the same spot every storm, size is usually the cause.
Half round gutters and copper gutters: the trade-offs
Half round gutters have a rounded, classic profile that suits older and historic homes. They carry less water than a K-style gutter of the same width, so we often step up a size. Copper gutters weather to a green-brown patina, last a very long time, and cost considerably more than aluminum. Soldered copper joints need a skilled hand.
Alameda has a large stock of older houses: the Point2Homes figure is 31.9% built in 1939 or earlier, 10,315 homes. On those homes, half round or copper can look right. The City of Alameda Permit Center says work that changes the exterior of a building may need Planning design review, so ask before changing the look of a historic home. Our estimate states who handles any application, and you should confirm with the Permit Center.

How we install gutters: the steps
- Walk the roofline. We measure every run, count corners and check drip edge at the roof.
- Probe the fascia. Soft or split boards get flagged and priced as a separate line.
- Write the estimate. It names size, metal, linear feet, downspout count and locations, and disposal.
- Remove the old gutters. Fasteners come out; holes in the fascia are filled or the board is repaired.
- Form and hang. Each run is formed from coil and hung with hangers at close spacing and a slight pitch toward the downspout.
- Seal and fit. Corners and end caps are sealed. Downspouts, elbows and extensions are attached.
- Test. We run water through and watch for drips at seams and corners.
- Clean up. Debris leaves with us; the yard and walkways are left neat.
Customers have reported that their yards were left neat, debris removed and daily cleanup done. That is how we run a job.

New gutters cost and gutter replacement cost: what moves the number
We do not publish a price list. These factors set the total:
- Linear feet. More roof edge, more gutter. Corners add labor.
- Metal. Aluminum is the base. Copper is a different price tier.
- Size and profile. A 6-inch gutter and large downspouts cost more than 5-inch.
- Story height. Two-story fascia needs taller ladders or staging.
- Fascia condition. Rot repairs add to the job.
- Downspout routing. Tying into drains or running extensions adds parts.
For a general price discussion, read our post on new gutter cost. The figure to hold us to is the one in the written estimate, so ask for one with every line itemized and compare it with other quotes line by line.

Licensing and deposits: what to check before you sign
Check any contractor's license at cslb.ca.gov before you pay a deposit, ours included. California caps a home improvement down payment at $1,000 or 10% of the contract, whichever is less (B&P §7159.5), and the license number must appear in a contractor's advertising (B&P §7030.5). The three-business-day cancellation window runs five days for buyers 65 or older (CSLB).
When gutters go on with a new roof
If a reroof is coming, hang the gutters at the end of it. The tear-off exposes the fascia and the drip edge, so rotten sections get fixed before the gutter goes on. One Alameda customer had gutters installed after a reroof. Another had roofline trim, soffits, fascia and gutters replaced together on a ranch home.
If your gutters need work but the roof is fine, we do them alone. Gutter and downspout repair covers fixes that do not need a whole new run, and gutter guards are worth a look on streets with heavy leaf drop.

Caring for new gutters
Clean new gutters at least once a year, in early fall before the rains. A hose pushed up each downspout shows whether the flow is clear. Look at the corners and end caps after the first heavy storm; small drips there are cheap to fix early. Alameda gets about 22 inches of rain a year, almost all from October to April (BestPlaces), so fall is the cleaning window.
